As an educator I try to give my daughter toys that will be fun, but have a developmental benefit as well. When I was offered a chance to try out the
Fright Factory Creature Creator, I immediately went online to check out the details. This toy is recommended for ages 6-8 and up. It seems to be marketed to boys in the commercial, but my daughter loves science and I tested this toy out myself (I plan on surprising her with it for Christmas). It requires 3 AA batteries to get started so remember to get a pack before gifting.
The box came with:
- three plastic bug trays
- UV light unit
- two tubes of coloured gel
Creature Creator Retails for approximately $25-30 and comes with two tubes of gel.
Gross Bugs EwwGoo Refill kit retails for approximately $10
and comes with 2 gel refills to make 6 bugs.
After trying the unit myself, it seems to be simple enough in its concept. The UV gel is squeezed into the plastic tray and placed on the silver like platform of the unit. Crank the orange handle and UV light with harden the gel into a creature that can be picked up and played with. Overall, I think the fun value will come from watching the chemical change from liquid to solid and inspirational pretend play with the creatures. Fright Factory by Tech 4 Kids has made it to my gift list because it offers play with a purpose and will appeal to boys and girls who like to create.
I also received a Gemmies Design Studio, I didn't open it for review because it was donated to a local toy drive to brighten Christmas for a family in need.
