Recovery From Grief and Loss: Cry, Hug, Remember {Life}

Grief is a deeply personal and life changing element of the human condition.  Whether you expected the news or whether your loved one was taken suddenly, grief is a multi-faceted and organic process. I have dealt with loss many times in the last 38 years, but each death brings new pain and the process of recovery is never quite the same between each instance.  Experts can pinpoint the stages of grief but they cannot predict how each and every one of us will travel through the process.

It has been 7 days since I heard the news of the death of my friend's daughter and we consecrated her young soul to God today.  In seven days I've travelled from physical pain and disbelief, to acceptance and profound sadness. There is never any way to reconcile the death of a 4 year old child, but having gone through death and loss in the past, I know that now is the time to cry for her loss, hug each other hard and often, and remember the sweet moments that forever warm our hearts.

Listening to and singing music is another way of processing my thoughts through the tough times, and this song was played at the funeral today.

John 16:22
So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
