Stay Home Date Night #LMDConnector

Four years ago, one of my best friends' introduced us to Raclette.  Apes had spent most of the year in Switzerland and discovered this yummy dinner tradition.  Raclette refers to a type of grill and also the cooking method for one of our favourite meals can't be found at a fancy restaurant.  It is enjoyed in the comfort of our own home and can be made with an infinite number of food combinations.  Our favourite meats, vegetables, and cheeses are combined to make a delicious dinner that can be served at parties or become a quiet dinner for two.

Typical ingredients for a couples dinner:

  • 2 quick fry steaks or boneless pork loin thinly sliced
  • 1/2 pound Bacon strips
  • 3 fully cooked knackwurst or bratwurst sliced
  • 100 to 300 grams of melting cheeses thinly shaved- We like swiss, ementhal, gruyere, havarti, and mozzarella
  • Vegetables cut into strips for easy flipping and even cooking- asparagus, sweet peppers, mushrooms, green onions, sliced red onion, button and portabello mushrooms.
  • Pickles and pickled beets
My grill with individual pans that fit under the
broiler for melting cheese while
your meat and vegetables grill/reheat on top.
Serve with small steamed potatoes,
pickles & a variety of other sides.
I pre-cook the bacon and pork strips for 12 minutes
preheated 350 c oven. #1 - Raw bacon adds a
lot of grease and splatters on the open grill,
#2- I'm concerned with cooking pork to the proper internal temp.

The table is set with heat safe place mats, separate bowls of meat, cheese,
vegetables, as well as condiments. Plan on having heat safe

scrapers and tongs ready for use.
My potatoes are steamed in the
microwave and kept warm in the classic name brand steamer.

Leftovers can be stored separately.  Keep raw meats separate from cooked
meats in the fridge.  Fry the uncooked meats and vegetables first in a
large skillet.  Add cooked potatoes and other cooked leftover meats.

Wrap the plastic handle in foil, lay cheese in a single layer
over the skillet contents. Broil for 8 to 10 minutes until
the cheese is bubbly and beginning to brown.
