Using A Dishwasher Shouldn't Require A Chemistry Degree #FINISHRevolution {R&G}

I was never good at chemistry, and don't always need to know why something works ~ But I do know when to trust my instincts when it comes to sticking with a product that works well and lives up to it's promises.  FINISH Quantum Powerball tabs were put to the test in our busy home for three months and are now the only brand we'll use.  I've enjoyed my time with the #FinishRevolution campaign and recently sat in on a webinar hosted by Diane Hoffman on behalf of FINISH. She gave some helpful tips on getting the most out of my dishwasher. 

• Loading the dishwasher properly can save the hassle of finding caked on food after the final rinse and dry cycles.  Nesting spoons sitting inside each other or a pot sitting over a bowl can stop the water from hitting the dish above it.

• Use hot water.  Dishwashers are designed to use hot water and work best in it and typically need at least a water temperature of 120-degrees .

• Choose the right detergent and store it properly. A box powder sitting under your hot and humid kitchen sink will lose its effectiveness. By the time it gets into the dishwasher, it has lost its cleaning ability.

• Choose a detergent that has the cleaning agents you need most. Which leads us to the "Enzymes VS Bleach" discussion.  Gel-based detergents can only have one or the other.

Enzymes break down protein and starch stains.  If eggs, oatmeal or mac & cheese, are still left on the plate after going through the dishwasher, the detergent probably didn’t have the enzymes cleaning agent.  Enzymes like a lower temperature at the beginning of the cycle.  As the main wash cycle runs, the temperature increases and enzymes die off at 140 degrees.  Enzymes are killed by bleach. Bleach likes a higher temperature and will pick up where enzymes left off in the wash cycle.
